Next week, I’ll be mostly posting about Richard Armitage, but I do have someone else occupying the joint spot as Favourite Actor … and he is starring in a new TV series, which is launching here in the UK on Tuesday, and that needs celebrating just as much!
What I’m talking about is Alcatraz, which will be on Watch (Sky 109, Virgin 124), starting Tuesday 13 March 2012 at 21:00 / 9pm. Behind the scenes, executive producer JJ Abrams – known for Lost, amongst others.
In 1963 America’s most notorious and infamous prison closed and some of the nation’s worst murderers, rapists and thieves vanished. Now they’re back. And about to be let loose on modern age America …
Here’s a brief summary of what the series is about:
When San Francisco Police Department detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a shocking suspect: an Alcatraz inmate – one who died over 30 years ago.
Given her family history — both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, Ray Archer, were guards at the prison — Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent Emerson Hauser tries to impede her investigation, she’s doggedly committed.
Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast Dr. Diego “Doc” Soto (Jorge Garcia, Hurley in Lost) to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. With the assistance of Senior EBI Agent Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill, Jurassic Park, series one of The Tudors) and scientist Lucy Banergee (Parminder Nagra, ER, Bend It Like Beckham) the two discover leads to a series of events that will change San Francisco and the history of the inmates of Alcatraz forever.
And so the mystery of ‘the rock’ begins to unfold…
